AAP government, Centre clash over logistics for SIT probing 1984 anti-Sikh riots

New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi and the Centre are clashing over providing logistics to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the anti-Sikh riots.

The Home Ministry has written a letter to the state government saying more than two and half months
have passed since the SIT was constituted but it has not been able to move forward due to the absence of required manpower. The ministry has asked the Delhi government to immediately provide public prosecutors to the SIT.

The Delhi government has declined the charge and said it is not its duty to provide personnel for the investigation. The SIT had been set up on February 12 and the team was asked to submit its report in six months.

Senior AAP leader HS Phoolka said the government's stand is completely wrong and the Centre is responsible for the progress of the investigation. Reacting to this, Bharatiya Janata Party spokesperson Sambit Patra said, "AAP had said that they will begin SIT. Home Ministry has written a letter tellign AAP to stop playing politics over it."
